The Blowfish
This is a fairly conservative example of a Blowfish by Peter Heeschen. The Blowfish was originally designed by Lars Ivarsson, son of Sixten Ivarsson, the quintessential grandfather of the great Danish Freehand movement. The side panels of this shape exhibit the marvelous birdseyes, while the transverse band shows perfectly defined straight grain. More exotic interpretations of this shape are common.
This Tsuge is a marvelous example of the shape. The curves are delicate and graceful, with only the left side of the pipe exhibiting the panel; the right side is convex and shows lovely graining. Even the two views presented do not do justice to this pipe's intricately carved beauty.
This was the first Blowfish in my collection. It was made by Bengt Carlson of Sweden. The two panels have a wonderful concavo-convex contour, quite difficult to photograph, and even more difficult to describe. The pipe fits in the hand perfectly, however.
Finally, this little Larsen. I suspect this pipe was cut by Peter Hedegaard. It's a tiny pipe, like a little jewel in my collection.
